Universal Chain-End Coupling Conditions for Brominated Polystyrenes, Polyacrylates, and Polymethacrylates

Atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC), performed with or without traps, has allowed for high extents of (Xc) a variety brominated polymers, yet structurally different polymeric chain ends require unique reagents and reaction conditions. Inspired by similar study that focused on universal conditions the controlled polymerization monomers using atom (ATRP), this work focuses developing single set (or as little variation possible) will achieve greater than 80% end-brominated chains polystyrene (PSBr), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMABr), acrylate) (PMABr). The traps ?-phenyl-tert-butylnitrone (PBN), 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane (MNP), nitrosobenzene (NBz) were chosen in study, along copper catalysts, reducing agents, nitrogen-based ligands. Ultimately, effective was identified only difference being trap used: MNP PSBr PMABr while NBz necessary to similarly PMMABr.
